The Bean, which is just larger than an egg, occupies the ideal niche for a Bluetooth speaker; it’s cheap enough to take to the beach or festival without overly worrying, but not so cheap that we’d rather remove our ears than listen to anything played through it. It’s fine for use used outdoors too, with a thick rubber exterior to soak up everyday knocks, and a bundled karabiner for clipping it to a bag or belt hook. The charging port is also weatherproofed under a chunky rubber tab. Predictably, audio lacked bass, and distortion rears its head at higher volumes, but it’s surprisingly good for a speaker of this price and size.
